Nanjishan Wetland Nature Reserve upgraded to a national level

With EnviSolve's technical assistance provided in the comprehensive
survey and planning, Nanjishan Provincial Nature Reserve has been recently
updated to a national level by the State Forestry Administration.

Nanjishan Nature Reserve is located in the estuary of Ganjiang River
where an alluvial delta is formed by sediments from upstream into Poyang
Lake. The delta has its shape and area being changed in seasons and
years by the hydrological forces and human impacts.

Our technical assistance is focused on the dynamic land cover change
by season and by year using RS and GIS techniques. Analysis is also
made to disclose the impacts of the wetland landscape change to the
waterbirds wintering here migrated far from Siberia and northeast China.

We applied a re-scaled GAP Analysis Model in predicting the distribution
of waterbirds, and the results were successfully used by the Forestry
Planning and Design Institute, State Forestry Administration to make
a scientific zoning within the reserve. This is the first time for application
of GAP Analysis Model in functional zoning of nature reserve in China.

This model if modified taking into account specific needs can be widely
used to evaluate and design the protected areas pattern at national,
provincial and local scales.
